Below shows a number of commands that you can use for securing your Cisco router.<\/p>\n

Block Denied Logins <\/strong>– Useful for delaying denied logins when someone is trying to brute force your router.<\/p>\n

(config)# login block-for [seconds] attempts [attempts] within [seconds]<\/pre>\n
Quiet Login<\/strong> – Allows you to still login once the router has blocked login attempts because of the above. A permitted list is created via the ACL.<\/p>\n
(config)# login quiet-mode access-class [acl]<\/pre>\n
Login Delay<\/strong> – Adds a delay at the point of your login being unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
(config)# login delay [seconds]<\/pre>\n
Login Logging<\/strong> – Generates a log after a certain amount of failed or successful attempts.<\/p>\n
(config)# login on-failure log  [#]
(config)# login on-success log [#]<\/pre>\n
Min Password Length<\/strong> – Ensures that any new password created on the router meets a minimum password length.<\/p>\n
(config)# security password min-length [number of characters]<\/pre>\n
Set Timeout<\/strong> – Sets a time out period for your line (con \/ vty).<\/p>\n
(config-line)# exec-timeout [min\/hour] [time]<\/pre>\n
Encrypt Passwords<\/strong> – Encrypts all passwords within your routers config.<\/p>\n
