This allows for a much greater total of&nbsp;DoS attacks to be processed.<br \/>Such attacks that are recognised and protected against at the hardware layer are :&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>deny-all fragments<\/li>\n<li>Fin-with-no-ack<\/li>\n<li>icmp-fragment<\/li>\n<li>ip-option<\/li>\n<li>land-attack<\/li>\n<li>large-icmp<\/li>\n<li>ping-of-death<\/li>\n<li>syn-and-fin-set<\/li>\n<li>syn-fragments<\/li>\n<li>TCP-no-flags<\/li>\n<li>unknown-ip-protocol<\/li>\n<li>xmas-tree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At a software layer the following attacks are recognised :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>address-sweep<\/li>\n<li>filter-sip<\/li>\n<li>generic<\/li>\n<li>icmp-type<\/li>\n<li>port-scan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Application_Security_Features\"><\/span><strong>Application Security Features<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SYN-Defense\"><\/span><strong>SYN-Defense <br \/><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"_mce_tagged_br\"><strong><\/strong>This feature allows the Brocade ADX to complete the TCP three way handshake on behalf of the user. Both the SYN and SYN ACK of the 3 way handshake are passed through as normal but the final ACK is sent from the ADX. If no ACK is received from the client then the ADX sends a RST to the server in order to terminate the connection.<br \/>The main benefit of this feature is to allow the server to move the connection into its established queue which is much larger.<br \/><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SYN-Proxy\"><\/span><strong>SYN-Proxy <br \/><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"_mce_tagged_br\"><strong><\/strong>The ADX proxies the entire 3 way handshake. The connection is then only proxied onto the server if it has been fully established. This can be configured either globally or on each interface using the command<span style=\"\"> ip tcp syn-proxy [&#8230;]<\/span>.<br \/><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"_mce_tagged_br\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Transaction_Rate_Limiting\"><\/span><strong>Transaction Rate Limiting<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"_mce_tagged_br\"><strong><\/strong>Transaction Rate Limiting allows you to set&nbsp;the&nbsp;maximum total of connections on a per client and per port basis.<br \/><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"_mce_tagged_br\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Connection_Rate_Control_CRC\"><\/span><strong>Connection Rate Control (CRC)<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong><\/strong>CRC&nbsp;allows you to&nbsp;define&nbsp;the maximum number of new&nbsp;connections that are forwarded to a real server.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary The Brocade ADX provides&nbsp;DoS protection within the hardware layer.
