The Brocade ADX offers 3 types of HA. There are :
Sym Active-Standby – Sym Active-Standby is only available on Router code. Both devices receive traffic but only the VIP with the highest sym-priority processes the traffic.
Sym Active-Active – Sym Active-Active is only available on Router code. Both devices receive traffic, traffic for each VIP can processed by either ADX.
Switch Mode – Switch Mode is only available on Switch code. One ADX is always active whilst the other ADX is standby.
Sym Active-Standby
Below is the configuration for Sym Active-Standby.
It is important to note that when configuring the VRID the command ‘backup priority 105 track-priority 10’ defines :
- priority – The priority of the device. The device with the highest priority is elected as mater.
- track-priority – This is the value that is subtracted from the priority should one of the tracked ports fail.

Next each Virtual Server is assigned a sym-priority. The system with a Virtual Server with the highest Sym Priority processes the traffic. Each Virtual Server IP is assigned to a VIP Group and finally each port profile is configured to synchronize sessions between nodes.

Sym Active-Active
The configuration methods for Sym Active-Active are the same as Sym Active-Standby, apart from the command ‘sym-active’ which is applied to each Virtual Server.
